To raise the funds needed to advance the Welcome Glen Farmhouse a fundraising potjie competition and family funday is being held on Saturday 29 March 2025. In its fourth year, teams will battle in the park to be crowned the 2025 Welcome Glen Potjie Competition Champions. Fires are being lit at 09:00 with judging starting at 12h45. There will be traders, entertainment and kiddies activities including a treasure hunt, colouring-in competition and a sack race - all in the play park. Breakfast from early along with yummy cakes, puddings and pancakes will get the tummies started. Hot food, snacks, hot and cold drinks and potjie will be on sale.
The entertainment for the day will include loads of local artists backed by foot-tapping good tunes. Each competing team will also choose an anthem to be played occasionally to give them a boost.
The organising team are calling for sponsors for ingredients, prizes and other items for the event - stall applications are also open for entries. To compete you can enter a team of up to six people. Each entry is R200 and teams need to purchase their ingredients - there are however a few sponsored pots available for local organisations who want to enter. The goal is 12 teams and 5 spots are already booked.
"Community spaces are the bedrock of a thriving society," said Conway Lotter, chair of the WGCVA. "They are where connections are made, cultures are celebrated, and well-being is nurtured. By investing in these spaces, we invest in the future of our communities."
“Think of the Welcome Glen Farmhouse as your friendly neighbourhood living room. It's where everyone can gather, connect, and feel like they belong. It's a spot where people can come together to build a better future for everyone” continues Lotter.
