Welcoming a baby into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities is a cultural practice that involves the whole community and the ceremony is an acknowledgement of an infant’s connection to the traditional lands on which they are born, and a celebration of their birth. The ceremony will begin with families warmly welcomed by a local Elder, followed by an Aboriginal dance performed by members of Demar Djookins (Grandmothers/Aunties) Dance Group, and a Smoking Ceremony introduced by an Elder in traditional Nyoongar language.
Open to children 0-2 years.
