Venerable Thubten Khadro leads a Weekend Course in the Buddhist Center Sampo in Helsinki and online, September 27-28. She will also give a public talk on Friday evening, 26th September.
During this weekend, we will explore what it means to cultivate calm and compassion. We get to know the Buddhist meditation tradition, especially the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, and practice various meditation techniques. The foundation for the meditations is the Buddhist philosophy and its understanding of the mind. To participate in the course, you do not need previous experience in meditation; curiosity and an open mind are enough!
These teachings are especially recommended for people new to Buddhism, and a great opportunity for anybody to join. You will learn methods to transform destructive thoughts and attitudes and develop a more positive and joyous mind. Everyone is most welcome to join this enlightening course!
Free Public Lecture: Calm, Connection & Compassion in a Crazy World
🕓 Friday 26th September at 5 – 6.30pm (Helsinki time).
📍Where: IN-PERSON Buddhist Center Sampo, Vetehisenkuja 3, 00530 Helsinki (close to Hakaniemi metro station) or ONLINE through Zoom.
Life can feel overwhelming — stress, uncertainty, and the pressures of daily life can leave us anxious and disconnected. In this talk, Venerable Thubten Khadro will explore practical Buddhist teachings to cultivate inner calm, foster meaningful connection, and nurture compassion for ourselves and others.
Through reflections, stories, and a short guided meditation, participants will discover simple ways to navigate a busy world with more peace, clarity, and heart.
Weekend Course: How to Meditate
🕓 Time: Saturday 27th – Sunday 28th September 2025, 9am to 4pm on both days (Helsinki time). If you’re joining us in person, please make sure to arrive at least 15 min prior to the start of teachings on both days.
📍Where: IN-PERSON Buddhist Center Sampo, Vetehisenkuja 3, 00530 Helsinki (close to Hakaniemi metro station) or ONLINE through Zoom.
🤔 What to bring: Comfortable clothes, and a notebook / something to write on for taking notes. We will sit on cushions on the floor, comfortably close “Tibetan style”. Chairs will be available for those who find it more comfortable. For lunch, we will visit a nearby restaurant together (you are also welcome to bring your own lunch, just be aware we don’t have a fridge or cooking facilities).
✅ The participation fee is €70 for the weekend course (€50 for pensioners/students/unemployed/members of Tara Liberation) IN PERSON. For ONLINE participants, the fee is 35€ (25€) for the whole weekend.
This weekend course is a part of FPMT’s ”Discovering Buddhism” course – its module 2 ”How to Meditate”.
Your donation helps us to keep the center running and to host inspirational teachers like Venerable Khadro. We never turn anyone away for financial reasons. Please let us know ([email protected]) if the fee is too much for you. We are happy to help.
