Weekend Immersion: DANCE TRAPEZE FLOW w/ Caitlin Wallace
Join us for a weekend of dancing and flowing with your trapeze bar. We’ll break down threading and weaving around the bar and investigate creating and maintaining shelves across our thighs, hips, and pelvis for smooth rolling and maneuvering. We’ll put theory to the test as we practice creating new transitions around the bar that follow our meandering momentum. As we move into the ropes, we will explore weight shifting and unique transitions that can be performed slowly and smoothly, with a focus on shape making (or more dynamically for choreographic flow).
In a special section on bar “manipulations” we will discuss how to give life and energy to the bar itself – how can we move the trapeze around us, rather than move our bodies around it. And we’ll add spin dynamics to these manipulations and flows to increase the energy of the puzzle-like movement around the dance trapeze. Bring extra layers for protection is encouraged!

ABOUT THE COACH:
Caitlin Wallace is a dance trapeze artist, aerial coach, former college athlete, and a Doctor of Physical Therapy student. She completed the New England Center for Circus Arts (NECCA) ProTrack Program from 2016-2019, where she majored in dance trapeze and minored in injury-prevention-based flexibility.
As a performer she strives to move with authenticity and fluidity while traveling amongst multiple levels of her apparatus. She particularly likes creating labyrinth-like-flows of transitions to sequence around the bar and ropes.
Caitlin’s aerial coaching focuses on utilizing healthy body mechanics for effortless movement, while discussing the theory of how our bodies interact with the trapeze to create fluidity and control. She often encourages exploration and creative play to draw out the unique styles and visions of her students. She has worked with a variety of students ranging from absolute beginners to pre-professional artists.
