Weekend Course Retreat: How to Attain Liberation – The Practice of the Three Higher Trainings
Sat 8th & Sun 9th Nov
with Visiting Teacher, Gen Kelsang Tonglam
What is the actual method to attaining permanent freedom from sufferings, pains and problems? According to Buddha, all of our suffering can be traced back to states of mind known as delusions, such as attachment, aversion and especially self-grasping ignorance. In the Sutras, Buddha therefore taught many methods to recognise, reduce and finally permanently free ourselves from the painful grip of delusions. All of these methods can be condensed into what is known as The Practice of The Three Higher Trainings — training in higher moral discipline, higher concentration and higher wisdom. These trainings are called "higher" because they are motivated by a state of mind known as "renunciation" – a sincere wish to abandon the cycle of impure life, a life pervaded by delusions, otherwise known as samsara. The three higher trainings are therefore the clear, practical path we need to walk to find true and lasting peace.
During this special weekend course, visiting Teacher Gen Kelsang Tonglam (the National Spiritual Director of Kadampa Buddhism in the East Asian region) will give clear guidance that will empower us to enter, progress along and complete the path to permanent liberation from suffering. Day 1 of the course will focus on developing the mind of renunciation. Renunciation is not about giving up everything and living a life of austerity. Rather, it's a powerful and joyful mental attitude that frees us from the bondage of uncontrolled desires and feelings of dependency. Day 2 will go on to focus on the actual practices of higher moral discipline, concentration and wisdom.
This is a rare and precious opportunity to learn directly from Gen Kelsang Tonglam, a senior Teacher of the Kadampa Tradition. Gen Tonglam will share clear, practical guidance through a series of teachings and meditations, helping you build a strong foundation for your spiritual practice. Our Resident Teacher, Gen Kelsang Rabka, will also be there to guide meditations and join Gen Tonglam in a discussion and Q&A session. Don't miss this chance to take a meaningful step on the path to genuine peace.
Everyone is welcome and no prior experience is necessary, but do note that this will be an in-depth Buddhist course. Because space in our Centre is limited, do consider booking early if you wish to attend.
