Weekend Childbirth Prep Course

• 7+ hours of live, dynamic instruction and conversation with Linsay Hiller, childbirth educator, birth doula, and birth story listener (see bio here)
• Support for all birth intentions, regardless of birth location, pain management desires, and family structure. This course will provide guidance and exploration of a variety of possibilities, interventions, advocacy techniques, real-life examples, and practice. The intention is that you leave the class with a sense of confidence and preparedness for whatever you may encounter in your birth space.
• A packet of materials including the comprehensive course guide, birth and postpartum planning prompts, a birth plan template, supplies for our class games and activities, as well as handouts with valuable information and resources to take with you to your birthing location.
• Emails with videos, articles, and resources related to the course topic along with additional prompts for reflection and planning.

Our class is highly interactive and fun and we encourage participation and questions both during the class and via email.

We will meet in the cozy living room space at the Nurture Nook (8320 Professional Hill Dr., Fairfax, VA 22031) where you will gather in an intimate setting on comfortable seating and couches with other expecting parents. Coffee, tea, water, and light snacks will be provided.

Day 1

• The Process of Birth (how physiological birth happens)
• Birth Hormones (their importance in labor and how to help encourage the release of productive hormones!)
• Advocacy Tools and Informed Decision Making (practice, tips, and real life examples)
• Inductions and Cesarean Birth (common interventions, the benefits and risks, and what to expect from a cesarean birth)
• Early Postpartum (the golden hour, your body postpartum, and early baby care)

Day 2

• Setting Birth Intentions and writing a Birth Plan (practical examples and exploring what’s important to you)
• Practicing Coping Tools (breathing techniques, comfort measures, and practicing tools for both unmedicated and medicated birth)
• Creating Birth Environments (how they impact your labor, your body, and how to control your space)
• Partner Support (practical tips, practice, and information on the partner’s important role)
• Life after Birth (real talk about life with baby, your new body, and how to prepare for postpartum)
