Join us on Wednesday the 12th of June for the next instalment of our Wednesday Lunchtime Lecture Series, "Sir William Glasgow" presented by Ted McArdle.
Sir William Glasgow (1876-1955)
Sir William Glasgow spent his childhood and early adulthood in country Queensland. He was successively a bank clerk, shopkeeper, pastoralist, businessman, politician, Australian diplomat and family man. From the age of 19, he was a volunteer part-time soldier. He served full-time with distinction in the Boer War and World War 1, the latter at Gallipoli and on the Western Front. He’s credited with being instrumental in changing the course of the First World War at the 2nd Battle of Villers-Bretonneux. He spent an outstanding life of accomplishment and service to his fellow Australians and family, with self-effacing humility.
Ted McArdle
Ted McArdle is a retired anaesthetist with an interest in history. In addition to the Royal Historical Society of Queensland, he’s a member of a couple of other history interest groups to which he’s presented a number of lectures on a range of topics. Retirement allows indulgence of an interest in travel, on occasion allowing on site research of lecture topics.
