Learn about the Bay Area Figurative movement and artists like Nathan Oliveira.
During the 1950s, a few painters in the San Francisco Bay Area shifted from the prevailing style of Abstract Expressionism in favor of a return to figurative painting. They created what would come to be known as "Bay Area Figurative Art."
In this class, students will learn about:
- The artists from this movement as inspiration for the class: David Park, Richard Diebenkorn, Elmer Bischoff, and few more surprises!
- Each artists' unique style and how to paint figures with a more abstract composition—bridge the gap between abstract and objective art!
Supply List:
- various acrylic colors
- various brushes
- q uality paper towels like Viva or Blue Shop
- all your paint stash goodies and supplies
- various found papers or materials to collage with
- 1-2 medium sized canvases, wool panels or mixed media paper
