Prerequisite for this more advanced class is either Intro or Intermediate Abstract Acrylics.
He made his way to the United States in 1926 as a stowaway. Willem de Kooning became one of the most important painters of the 20th century, constantly evolving over a career lasting nearly seven decades.
A first-generation abstract expressionist de Kooning developed a signature style that fused vivid color with aggressive paint handling. We will start with a study of de Kooning's early black and white paintings and a close look at the groundbreaking "Excavation." The first pieces will be black and white and then a deep dive into de Kooning's use of vivid color and action painting.
