About this Event

If you know me, you know I'm no stranger to going large. Why? Because it's fun... magnetic... freeing... plus, it's more doable/affordable than most think!
Join me as I share my own process for going "big and bad" plus other tricks of the trade.
Students will learn about artists who also work larger-than-life and the different stages of a painting as I guide you through the process. The result: a super large, mixed media painting!
Using bold brush strokes (connecting body to canvas) and discovering the right tools with a little pre-planning advice, students will walk away confident and comfortable with creating "monumental" works of art.
NOTE: this is designed for experienced artists who are intermediate up to advanced.
Supplies:

  • Canvas or wood panels that are roughly 48x60 or similar but ultimately you get to choose the size (yes...we are going SUPER BIG); here are three options that you can do:

Option 1: you can get a roll of loose, unstretched canvas that can be clipped to one of the large 48x60 foam boards we keep around (you'd prop this against a table to paint; not the wall).

Option 2: you can buy 2-3 canvases or wood panels of the same to make a diptych or triptych (diptych example: two 40x40s make a 40x80; triptych example: three 30x40s make a 40x90).

Option 3: you can buy a single, large canvas or wood panel that's 48x60 or larger if you have the means to transport it (hello, mini vans).

  • Various brushes of all sizes—especially large ones and 2" chip brushes
  • Various colors of acrylic paint (you won't need buckets of paint or to bring every color you own, but do bring thinner consistencies like soft body, fluid, and hi-flow consistencies—invest in a few acrylic ink colors in neutral or earth tones)
  • Any large tools you already own—or find around home (, , , , , , etc...)
  • Any large drawing materials you already own (, ,, , , , , etc...)
  • Viva or Blue Shop Towels
