"Weaving Worlds" offers a day of immersive workshops that celebrate the rich tapestry of global music and rhythm. This is a rare and unique creative learning experience for the whole family, perfect for music enthusiasts and creatives alike and suitable for all ages, abilities, musical backgrounds and levels of musical experience.The workshops are a collaboration between Brisbane-based artists Menaka Thomas (Indian-Fusion singer), Kelsey Giarola, (vocal coach and songwriter), and Tsoof Baras, (percussionist and composer) with Bundaberg-based talents Christie Jacobsen (Director, Bundaberg Voice Collective) and Cynthia Hoogstraten (Former President of Unity Drummers Inc).
The workshops will explore and weave together the musical worlds of the artists - from the song traditions of India and Africa to the modern and contemporary genres of expression.
You can attend one or both workshops, whatever meets your musical and artistic appetite!
These workshops have been supported by the Bundaberg and District Neighbourhood Centre and the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF). RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Bundaberg Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
Cost: $15 for one workshop; $20 for both workshops (Note: Children under the age of 10 years can attend free of charge)
Workshop Schedule:
9:30am – 12:30pm: “Weaving World Voices”
Renowned Bundaberg-based musician and choir director, Christie Jacobsen, teams up with Brisbane-based artists Menaka Thomas, Kelsey Giarola and Tsoof Baras to present a workshop that explores and weaves together song and vocal techniques from frameworks of Indian classical music to contemporary genres.
2:30 – 4:30pm: “Weaving World Rhythms”
Celebrated Bundaberg-based drumming facilitator and mentor Cynthia Hoogstraten teams up with Brisbane-based singers Menaka Thomas and Kelsey Giarola and percussion maestro Tsoof Baras, to explore rhythms and beats from India to Africa and beyond! Bring your own drum or percussive instrument, if you have one.
Morning and afternoon tea and refreshments provided. BYO lunch or purchase food from outlets in local area.
