About this Event

Join us in-person or online for our weekly Community Night: an open, cross-tradition discussion space where we learn, share, and build community together. We gather every Wednesday evening for discussion, meditation, ritual nights, and more, with time to socialize before and after.

Schedule:

We start at 6:00pm for casual social time, then at 6:30pm we begin the main discussion (and stream it live on YouTube). After the formal portion ends, we usually keep the Zoom call open a bit longer for chatting as folks head out.

This week's topic: Myth

We think of myths as these great, epic, meaningful things that are somehow separate from stories. But today's "myths" were the blockbuster stories of eras past, and the epic tales we read on paper and watch on the big screens today will be the myths and legends of tomorrow.

Myth is a culture's sacred gossip, its origin map, its values in costume. Sometimes it's even a bit of propaganda, because the victors do tend to write (and rewrite) the stories. This week, we'll dig into myth as living material: how it shapes what we believe, how it teaches us, and how it hides its best secrets in plain sight IF you know how to read between the lines.

We'll also talk about why myths come in multiple versions and how those differences matter—like Aphrodite's origin stories, or the shifting identities of Odin's closest companions. Myth offers clues about character, values, and right relationship with the gods and the world around us, as well as a doorway into the Mysteries.

Bring a myth you love (or hate). We'll take a look and ask what it's trying to teach, who it serves, and what might be hidden between the lines.

Format: discussion. You're welcome to participate as a skeptic, a mystic, or a "I have no idea what I believe but I'm curious" person.

Join options (hybrid):

  • In-person: Weavers of the Web, ATC (Lansing)
  • Online: Join via Zoom for interaction, or via YouTube to watch

Can't make it live?

Secure recordings of discussions are available to Patreon subscribers at the Bobbin level and above (ritual recordings at the Balanced level and above.)

What to bring (optional but helpful): a notebook, water, and a grounded body. If you're joining from home, set up a cozy ritual space (with candles, incense, etc.) so you can drop into the practice more easily.
