About this Event
WHAT STORIES ARE WE WEAVING?
A patch is a temporary repair that symbolizes fixing the old or broken. A nest is a shelter, a home. In this workshop, we will use these metaphors to explore our migratory experiences.
What stories of our diasporas are we weaving?
Workshop activities:
Mending: We will repair a piece from "Arqueología lúdica II: 100 días," presented at MACZUL in 2014, inviting the community to embroider and repair it.
Nests: Lourdes Peñaranda will guide us in the construction of nests with threads and materials, sharing techniques and working from intuition.
Stitches: Luis proposes a log of World Citizens. A participatory work that invites the public to use tools such as thread and needle to connect on a canvas printed with a world map their graphic answer to some questions.
As we mend and build with our hands, we will share stories about our displacements reflecting on our diasporic memory and identity along with the idea of new roots that redefine us from other territories to merge distant memories with close memories, as acts of political, feminist and community care resistance to blur borders.
The resulting pieces will be part of a long-term collective project.
