About this Event
5-Week Workshop
Date: Tuesdays, November 19-December 17, 2024
Time: 6pm-9pm
Description: All aboard the project express! Weave a project in 5 weeks!
Reaffirm skills and keep the practice fresh! Spend time with a loom! Weave a gift!
All Aboard the Project Express is a loom access and support workshop for getting a project done real quick! This workshop is for weavers who have dressed a loom before, but might still appreciate the guidance of a supportive team, that’s what Margaret and Jamie will be!
How it works: you will bring a project plan and yarn with you to the first class and, yep, we will board that project express train together! Margaret and Jamie can offer advice on design choices based on their own experiences trying to get projects done real quick! Independent open studio loom access will be available during select hours between classes so that you can have additional time to complete your project.
Before the first class, Margaret and Jamie will reach out to help you begin thinking through and planning your ideas and yarn selections.
We can’t wait!
Tuition: $215 + materials fee
Materials: 3/2 Cotton yarn is available for purchase from Contemporary Craft, if you like. Otherwise, weavers will be advised to bring their own yarn to work with.

About the Artist
Margaret Dugger is an artist currently based in Chicago, IL. Originally trained as an artisan handweaver, she now creates weavings that reflect on the quiet moments of our daily lives. Using the processes of addition, removal, and transformation, Margaret explores concepts of interconnection, the sacred within the mundane, and historical practices brought into the contemporary. She engages with the ancient traditions of textile work and art making, using cloth and thread as her medium.Since pursuing her bachelor’s degree at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, her work has branched out into new mediums including paper, sculpture, and book arts.
Jamie Boyle is a person who thinks a lot about and makes cloth and art. A lover of looms, these days, mostly she weaves and teaches weaving. Poetry was the context in which Jamie first learned to weave, while working in artist Ann Hamilton's studio. Since then, many people have taught, and continue to teach, Jamie how to work with looms. Currently, Jamie is a memebr of the staff team at Contemporary Craft, where they are growing a fibers program and community, following the belief that textile-practices can be a beautiful communal endeavor.
