These items were delicately crafted and made as mementos for friends and loved ones, used to mourn the dead or simply as symbols of friendship and personal connections. Today, in the era of social media, these heirlooms seem like a strange curiosity from a long-ago time.Join NCHGS’s Curator of Exhibitions for a workshop to learn about hairworked objects and learn how to make one yourself!
