Join us for our "Weave a traditional Irish Potato Basket or Sciathog" workshop and explore the traditions of Irish willow basketry. The Sciathog basket…pronounced skeeogue… gets its name from the Irish word for shield, sciath and was traditionally used for straining boiled potatoes. So with the season of Irish new potatoes upon us..especially our own PGI Comber Earlies... this could be a very useful addition to your kitchen ..or perhaps it would be better used as a bread basket or fruit bowl to impress your guests?
You will spend the day learning a new skill, from a traditional local crafter, using sustainable willow grown in our own Saille Garden, in a beautiful heritage setting, supporting the restoration of the garden, with good food, good company and you leave with a useful hand woven basket to be proud of.
