About this Event

This workshop is focused on the experience of a lactating parent who is considering weaning from breastfeeding. Though, the foundational knowledge and self-reflection activities are likely to be helpful learning for any phase of breastfeeding.

You’ll think of the end of breastfeeding when you think of weaning. But, weaning is by definition a progression, not an event.

In this workshop, you will learn about what weaning from breastfeeding means. Specifically, I will name the important differences in weaning from producing milk and/or weaning a child from nursing.

Learn

 • When to wean
 • How to wean from producing milk
 • What developmental stages impact the experience of weaning a baby from nursing

If a lactating parent is exclusively pumping, or primarily pumping and nursing (as in the common circumstance when working), then weaning is often an active, intentional action or purposeful change in stimulation pattern.

Since you began breastfeeding, you have been following the breastfeeding rules, bearing the weight of being the exclusive source by which to feed the baby, fighting for the protection of the supply.

Weaning means letting go of the active protection of your supply, sharing the responsibility to feed the baby with a whole wide world of every other type of food there is.

If you are primarily nursing, the experience of weaning often feels like a palpable shift in the dynamic and relationship with your nursing child. Often, it is a complicated web of seemingly conflicting emotions that coexistent and are deeply felt.

The physiological changes that accompany involution, or the cessation of lactation, are widely varied and range from imperceptible to severe and disruptive.

This workshop is for lactating parents only, no babies or toddlers.
