Who are We Shall Overcome and why Luton is coming back in January 2026: May 2025 marked 10 years since our much-missed brother Stephen Goodall kickstarted what soon became WSO, or We Shall Overcome.
The idea was to combine both protest event and benefit gig in what we came to refer to as 'A Raised Fist & A Helping Hand'; and in the decade since, WSO has been embraced by hundreds of grassroots activists and organisers who have run close to 1500 events, raising well over a million quid in help for people struggling at the sharp end in Food Bank Britain.
Solidarity.
Not charity.
It is people helping people.
Thousands of them.
Together we can help the local food banks, soup kitchens, homeless support, community outreach, youth projects, domestic violence units, refugee networks, and in the case of that daily work at The Station, anyone who turns up hungry, no questions asked.
From the first tin of beans to the four-figure fundraisers, everything matters.
Big things happen because little things did.
Never forget that.
