On November 20, join We Really Like Her! and Mubi for a special one-night screening of Coralie Fargeat’s feature directorial debut, Revenge.Back in 2017, Fargeat came onto the genre scene guns blazing with this fearlessly femme rape revenge thriller. Set in a dusty landscape with minimal escape routes, it is a gritty mix of I Spit on Your Grave meets Mad Max: Fury Road, with a dash of Spring Breakers.
In the same vein as Julia Ducournau’s Raw, Revenge is more contained than her buzzy follow-up, The Substance. But don’t think that means it doesn’t pull similarly putrid punches. With a killer lead performance from Matilda Lutz and bloody, yet cathartic climax, it is a must-see for both fans of Fargeat and this new wave of French, feminist filmmaking.
