Join us for a special MLK Day weekend author talk with historian and scholar Dr. Jennifer Dixon-McKnight, as she discusses her powerful new book, We Paved the Way: Black Women and the Charleston Hospital Workers’ Campaign. In this groundbreaking work, Dr. Dixon-McKnight highlights the essential leadership of Black women in the 1969 Charleston Hospital Strike, a pivotal moment in the struggle for civil rights, labor rights, and human dignity. We Paved the Way re-examines a critical chapter in Southern history and its enduring legacy for contemporary social justice movements. Dr. Dixon-McKnight will share insights into her research process, the women who inspired the book, and the ongoing relevance today.
Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity for Q&A and book signing.
This event is presented as part of our community’s MLK Day weekend of events, honoring Dr. King’s legacy.
