We Joined the Army: Stories of Frontier Army Wives

On Wednesday, March 19, from 1:30–2:30 pm, we invite you to a free program celebrating Women’s History Month, hosted in partnership with the Midwest Theater in Scottsbluff.
Sandy Wounded Arrow, Historic Site Manager of the Fort Robinson History Center, will present the history of the wives who accompanied the U.S. Army to Fort Robinson. Often coming from upper-class families and well-educated backgrounds, these women faced a tough transition, leaving the comforts of civilization as they knew it for life on the frontier. As they adjusted to the realities of their new life, they learned hard lessons and adapted to new expectations of what it meant to be a “lady.”
