About this Event

Jazz Power Initiative (JPI) in collaboration with Harlem School of the Arts (HSA) presents WE GOT THAT SWING!, A Harlem Music Jubilee​: Celebrating 125 years of Duke Ellington and 50 years of hip hop.WE GOT THAT SWING! is a special presentation of Jazz Power Initiative’s ongoing Intergenerational Jazz Power Jam series, as part of Jazz Appreciation Month and International Jazz Day. Featured guests include: Charenee Wade & Band, MC Silent Knight, Nat King Cole Generation Hope Ensemble, HSA's Dorothy Maynor Singers, Zah! Jr. and Jazz Power and the All City High School Jazz Band directed by Paul Corn. Before the concert, the students will experience a workshop led by JPI's Dr. Eli Yamin. Then at 1PM, all groups will join in for the grand finale concert performing together to the tunes of jazz and the blues. You can't miss it!

We Got That Swing! Intergenerational Jazz Power Jam is produced by Jazz Power Initiative, a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization founded in 2003, in collaboration with Harlem School of the Arts , and is made possible in part by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council; the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature; the Howard Gilman Foundation; TD Bank Charitable Foundation; the Hispanic Federation; the West Harlem Development Corporation (WHDC); the Cheswatyr Foundation; and Jazz Power Initiative’s individual donors.

Jazz Power Initiative is a community-based performing arts and educational non-profit organization, founded in 2003. Jazz Power serves thousands of New Yorkers and visitors annually - students, teachers, artists, seniors and general audiences, ages 8-80+, to build more creative and inclusive communities.

Harlem School of the Arts is a cultural arts center of interdisciplinary excellence. For over 50 years, HSA has built a community centered around a dynamic global curriculum, with a focus on diasporas of prominence in Harlem and Upper Manhattan.
