Celebrate diversity & inclusion in filmmaking at WE CANNES, hosted by We Belong & CINE, in a luxurious pool house located just minutes from the Palais du Festival.
We Belong has announced a new multi-year partnership with CINE & Lost Winds Entertainment to raise up to $15 million in funding for a slate of original films focused on diverse characters and stories.
This networking event will bring together producers, entertainers, musicians, athletes, influencers and changemakers to showcase the unique partnership between We Belong & CINE and promote our mission of inclusivity.
The experience will include an Open Bar and DJ Set, with keynote speeches by exceptional guests. The engagement will last from 3:30-5:30 pm, hosted by Yasmine Ouirhrane, founder of We Belong, and Bavand Karim of CINE & Lost Winds Entertainment.
WE CANNES aims to:
- Promote Diversity in Filmmaking: by bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders the event seeks to highlight the importance of inclusion and representation in the film industry. By fostering connections among investors, filmmakers, producers, philanthropists, and influencers, the event aspires to create a vibrant platform for advocating diversity in film.
- Encourage Investment in Diverse Films: The event seeks to raise awareness among investors and philanthropists about the value of supporting diverse stories and filmmakers. Through networking and discussions, WE CANNES intends to inspire participants to back projects that reflect a wide range of cultures, experiences, and perspectives.
- Build a Collaborative Community: WE CANNES endeavors to create a collaborative environment where filmmakers, producers, and other industry professionals can connect, share ideas, and explore opportunities. By uniting key players, the event strives to strengthen networks that can drive the growth of diverse and inclusive cinema.
About CINE & We Belong
CINE is an international media consultancy led by Bavand Karim, a creative executive and producer whose projects include a number of successful films, TV programs, and advertising campaigns.
We Belong is a French-based non-profit organization led by Executive Director Yasmine Ouirhrane that fosters leadership and wellbeing through storytelling.
Beyond film, We Belong’s commitment to inclusivity extends to a wide variety of cultural and philanthropic projects with a range of European and North American partners.
“Our sense of connectivity is so important when it comes to understanding the complete scope and impact of the critical issues facing society,” said Ouirhrane. “Bridging Hollywood films with European financing creates new opportunities to produce narratives that can bring together audiences from all around the world.”
Yasmine Ouirhrane was recognised as Young European of the Year 2019 and EDD Young Leader by the European Commission. Through her podcast We Belong, she covered 50 stories from 15 European countries, including interviewing former European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, singer Yendry, and football star Nadia Nadim.
Bavand Karim is a tenure-track professor in the Media Entertainment Arts program in the Visual and Performing Arts department at College of the Canyons, where he directs the film program. His projects have screened at the Cannes and Sundance film festivals, appeared on Netflix and Prime Video, and qualified for the Academy Awards.
