About this Event
Join us for our take on A Night at the Museum!
To kick off spring, we're hosting a homeschool family field trip to free our lil melanin minds and connect Black families to melanin centered homeschool experiences!
Our spring meetup will be at “Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys,” a groundbreaking exhibition organized by the Brooklyn Museum. Explore nearly 100 works by Black diasporic artists like Gordon Parks, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Lorna Simpson, and Amy Sherald. Curated by Kimberli Gant and Indira A. Abiskaroon, this collection embodies vibrant dialogues about art, culture, and identity.
Arrive Early at 6:45 PM
Come early to meet other families, receive your admission ticket, and secure first access to future homeschool family field trips. Our group’s timed reservation officially begins at 7:45 PM, but we encourage you to enjoy the museum’s special activities starting at 7:00 PM, which include:
• DJ Sets by DJ MxKenna and DJ JamEZ
• Community Tufting with NeekaSoDope
• Food Truck: Que Tal
• “Giants” Artist Community Forum with moderator Yonci Jameson at 7:00 PM
During the “Giants” Artist Community Forum, radio host and writer Yonci Jameson will guide a participatory dialogue among local creatives and community members. You’ll get a chance to reflect on the works and discuss how they connect to art, culture, and everyday life in the Twin Cities.
This event is free with your registration for our group field trip, but spots are extremely limited. Don’t miss this opportunity to immerse your family in the powerful legacy of Black creativity while forging meaningful connections with other homeschoolers.
Register now to reserve your spot and be part of this unforgettable evening celebrating art, culture, and community. We look forward to seeing you there!
We Can All Be Family!
While our focus is on centering and empowering Black families who homeschool—or who want to complement their children’s education—everyone is welcome to attend.
We invite participants who do not identify as Black or melanated to immerse themselves in the authentic lived experiences of Black families around the globe.
Our hope is to create a space that fosters understanding, celebrates creativity, and honors Black culture for all who wish to learn.
