We Are the One: San Francisco Punk, 1970s –1980sJuly 25 - September 22, 2024

The Haight Street Art Center is excited to present “We Are the One: San Francisco Punk, 1970s – 1980s,” an exhibition of S.F. punk club posters and flyers, punk films, local punk music and 150 striking photographs by more than a dozen artists/photographers including Bruce Conner, Ruby Ray, Richard Alden Peterson, Chester B. Simpson, Michael Goldberg, Jeanne Hansen, the late Bobby Castro, James Stark, the late Jeff Good, Kamera Zie, Vincent Anton Stornaiuolo, and Jonathan Postal. There are dozens of flyers from Kareem Kaddah’s extensive collection! And flyers provided by Henry Rosenthal who was Crime’s drummer in the late 1970s. The exhibit includes photographs of such bands/musicians as Crime, the Avengers, the Ramones, Devo, Mutants, Blondie, the Nuns, John Cale, Lou Reed, Nico, the Dead Kennedys, Sleepers, Flipper and many more. Poster designed by and with photographs by Jonathan Postal, once of the Avengers and Readymades. Concurrent with the punk exhibit is an exhibit of photos from Michael Goldberg’s upcoming book, “Jukebox: Photographs 1967 - 2923.”
