About this Event

WDET presents the 2025 Sounds Like Detroit showcase, featuring:

AND THE NORTH INGALLS - Selected by Jeff Milo ():

Corazon Szell (she/her) is a guitarist from Brooklyn, New York and she recently graduated from the University of Michigan – School of Music, Theatre & Dance with a Bachelor's Degree in both Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation and Performing Arts Management and Entrepreneurship. Throughout her four years at the University of Michigan she has performed as the primary guitarist for a variety of performances and ensembles on campus, from musical theater productions to the UM Big Band Jazz Ensemble.

Corazon immerses herself in many different music genres and performance settings because she believes it is of the utmost importance to diversify her skillset on the guitar and within music overall. She strongly believes, in order to succeed as a musician today, one must always keep an open mind, an open ear, and an open heart. With this in mind, she constantly manifests new musical opportunities.

One of Corazon’s greatest prides is being the founder, bandleader, lead guitarist and vocalist for the Ann Arbor, MI based band North Ingalls. The band performs mainly original music (written and arranged) by Corazon, along with some covers. The vision is inspired by the many diverse musical styles she listens to and studies. Genres such as folk, jazz, popular, R&B, rap and rock to name a few, are reflected in her compositions and the band’s setlist, along with music by artists including The Lumineers, Noah Kahan, Caamp, and Jack Johnson. North Ingalls has played throughout the Ann Arbor area in established venues such as The Ark, North Star Lounge, and The Blind Pig.

She has released seven solo projects, toured globally with icons like KEM and The O’Jays, and appeared in major film, TV, and stage productions. With roots in soul, R&B, and beyond, BETH continues to shine as one of the most dynamic voices in music and entertainment today.

- Selected by Liz Warner ():

He is a multi-instrumentalist and a master at many traditional instruments including the Adungu from northern Uganda, Akogo from Eastern Uganda, Endingidi, Ndongo, Ngoni and percussion. He has also developed a unique approach and personal techniques on most of these instruments and, in combination with soaring voice; his music carries a true identity of the sub Saharan skies.

In 2018, with children from Uganda, Samuel Nalangira choreographed and led the DANCE OF HOPE production across the United States with featured performances at LEAF festival NC and Lotus Blossoms IN.
