About this Event
As his “story goes,” Longy has now figured in nearly half of Wayman Chin’s life — this fall marks his thirtieth year on the faculty. He comments, “while time brings with it the inevitability of change, it also powers the music that stuffs our experience. Does love generate music or does music generate love? But, ultimately, does it really matter so long as we are blessed with both?”
For this recital, Chin will offer reminiscences and reflections and works to which he has a deep connection. Opening with three pieces by Aaron Jay Kernis, Joan Panetti, and Scott Wheeler—who have been friends, mentors, muses—he concludes with the piece that took hold of him when he first heard it as a 16-year old: Schubert’s Sonata in Bb major, D. 960.
