YMI Cultural Center presents Watoto wa Utamaduni Lab!


Watoto wa Utamaduni is a Kiswahili phrase meaning “Children of Culture.”
The Watoto wa Utamaduni Lab is a dynamic, hands-on Black History Month experience designed for youth and families to learn through creativity, movement, exploration, and play.

This immersive program engages Black history as something living, relevant, and joyful, while honoring the many ways children learn—tactile, interactive, imaginative, and collaborative.

Families are invited to enjoy a meaningful Saturday experience that centers culture, curiosity, and community.

Hip hop dance

Coloring competition

Living Black History Museum

DJ-ing classes
Art classes
Science Lab

Activities are designed to support a variety of learning styles and age ranges.

The YMI Cultural Center is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating African American history, culture, and community through education, arts, and intergenerational engagement.
