About this Event
With an early start we travel to Fishguard to get the 2pm ferry across to Rosslare on to Waterford. On Monday we have a free day to explore Waterford which was established by the Vikings in the 9th Century and has become the capital of Ireland’s sunny Southeast. On Tuesday morning we visit Dunbrody Famine Ship in New Ross. It is one of the premier tourist attractions in the Southeast of Ireland. Centred on an authentic reproduction of an 1840’s emigrant vessel, it provides a world-class interpretation of the famine emigrant experience. In the afternoon we visit John F Kennedy Arboretum, it is one of the most ambitiously planted tree collections in Europe. In all there are 5,000 species and varieties of trees and shrubs represented in the collections.
On Wednesday we visit Kilkenny, a well-preserved medieval town, popular with tourists and with many original features. The best way to initially explore Kilkenny and its historic sights is on an included Kilkenny Road Train ride. Sit back and relax as it makes its way through the narrow streets to reveal the Abbey, Cathedral and many other highlights. This afternoon, explore the town and the castle for yourself.
On Thursday we join the Waterford & Suir Valley Railway for a journey along the banks of the River Suir. Arrive at Mount Congreve for an included visit of one of the world’s largest private gardens whose owner Ambrose Congreve won 13 gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show.
Friday morning we head back to the ferry early with breakfast on board and then make our way home.
