CLASS DESCRIPTION

Join us for a unique watercolor class that caters to all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned artists. Under the vibrant red umbrellas of Gansevoort Plaza in the Meatpacking District, you'll learn to capture the essence of this iconic location with your own cityscape painting. Guided by award-winning NYC artist Laura Baran, you'll follow step-by-step demonstrations, master basic watercolor sketching techniques, and even get the chance to paint the majestic elephants from the Great Elephant Migration. Let your creativity flow and gain the confidence to create! All materials and instructions are included.

B IO

Laura Baran (b. 1977, she/her pronouns) is a figurative painter and illustrator based in Lenape Indigenous People’s territories, now known as New York City. Baran's painting work draws on personal subject matter, celebrating acceptance, emotions and memories through narrative depictions of herself, ordinary life and natural beauty. Baran’s illustration clients include AT&T, Bloomingdale’s, HarperCollins, Hay House, La Mer, Meatpacking Business Improvement District, Sergio Hudson x Monrowe, and renowned organizer Mariame Kaba. Her work has been in Vanity Fair, The Huffington Post, Time Out New York, Elle and the New York Times. She is the illustrator of 4 books.

Baran earned a BFA in Illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and received the Effie Bowie Award for Excellence in Painting from New York’s Society of Illustrators. Exhibitions include New York Fashion Week, The National Arts Club in New York, Milk Gallery in New York, Envoy Gallery in New York, and STP (Serving The People). Baran’s works are part of private collections in the US, UK, and Australia.

Baran co-founded the organization Arts & Dreams, leading expressive art workshops to inspire hope and self-love with New Yorkers of all ages since 2009. Through her work, Baran merges her passions of art and healing. She lives with her husband and son in Hell’s Kitchen.
