About this Event
In this class you will learn different ways to paint cats in watercolor. We will discuss painting fur using several techniques, cat’s eyes, whiskers, etc. You will learn some more abstract techniques as well as methods to portray realism in cats. We will also discuss what makes a good reference image to paint. Note: you will not end this class with a completed painting, just the techniques to be used and carried forward into future paintings. The great thing about many of these techniques is that they can be used for other animals as well. This is not a “how to draw cats” class, but there might be some drawing. However, there will be discussion on how to transfer images for reference without a lot of drawing before painting.
Location: Class is in Laurie Adams’ home studio in Broomfield. Contact her for the address. Also note: the studio is in a basement so there are stairs.
Bring to class: All supplies are provided but you can bring your own supplies if you wish. This is a four-hour class, and there will be a short break in the middle of the class, so bring a snack and drink if you want. Some snacks will be provided as well. Please bring some reference images that you might want to paint because we will be discussing this in class. Close up and full body. Note: Please choose images that are sharp and in focus and also show good contrast of light and dark. Printed images are best rather than just from your phone. If you need help with printing images or advice of if an image is a good one to choose, contact Laurie. She will also provide additional reference images in the class.
