Watercolor Camellia
Friday, January 24, 2025
1:00-3:30pm
Instructor: Ann Marie Palmer
It's Camellia season at Leu Gardens!
This more advanced class is appropriate for those who have participated in previous watercolor classes at Leu Gardens or have painted with watercolors on their own.
Ann Marie will walk you through step-by-step instructions for painting your own watercolor camellia. We will use professional reference photos from Leu Gardens to study shadow/light and work sketching, color mixing, and backgrounds. Previous watercolor experience is strongly encouraged. After your class, take a walk through the gardens and see if you can find your camellia among the collection!
All supplies are included in your session fee, however if you have (or would like to purchase) a size 4 round watercolor brush please bring it with you. You can email the instructor for more information/suggestions:
When Harry P. Leu gave his gardens to the City of Orlando in 1961, it was said that his Camellia assortment contained more than 1,500 individual plants. Today the internationally recognized camellia collection continues to expand and include many historic varieties and newly discovered species. Thousands of camellias are what make Leu Gardens unique and the array of shapes, colors and sizes provide outstanding color from December through March.
Registration includes admission to the beautiful gardens before or after class.
Because watercolor actually moves on the paper, it is the most active of all mediums, almost a performance art. — Nita Engle
