Join us in Omaha to learn more about issues affecting the health of our water in the region and about Rights of Nature to protect our Water Relatives. There will be a water ceremony followed by a free Indigenous First Foods meal and presentation. We will meet on the first floor of The Greenhouse Apartments and take a short 5 minute walk to the Missouri for a water ceremony led by Renee Sans Souci, Omaha. Then we will return to the space and enjoy a wonderful meal made by Sewa Yuli. BIPOC Speakers from Iowa, Nebraska and Louisiana will speak about the health of our Water Relatives and how Rights of Nature can help us protect such a sacred aspect of life. The Water Rights Caravan is lead by 9 women and femme folks that will follow the Missouri River south through reservations and cities all the way to the confluence of Mississippi River and then go north into Iowa. Our goal is to bring BIPOC folks that are at the frontlines of the water crisis together to share knowledge about issues folks that face our communities surrounding water health, which affects the health of all living things. At this point of the climate emergency, the rights of our water relatives has never been more important, especially since Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri face some of the worst water quality in the country. We will be stopping in Sioux City, Winnebago Nation, Omaha, Ioway Nation, Kansas City, St. Louis and the Quad Cities.
This event is hosted in community with Great Plains Action Society, Project Beacon and the Nebraska Urban Indian Health Coalition.
