About this Event
Stage 1 of the Waitangi Tribunal National Water Inquiry started in 2012 and is now in Stage 3 with a focus on Geothermal. As part of the inquiry there is a focus on who has rights to the geothermal water throughout the entire Ngāti Tahu Ngāti Whaoa rohe. We find ourselves challenged by other groups who are asserting that they own the rights to our collective geothermal within our rohe.
We have joined together to provide support under a Ngāti Tahu Ngāti Whaoa group to protect our geothermal waters.
The Ngati Tahu Ngati Whaoa Collective includes Mataarae Marae, Ohaki Marae, Te Toke Marae, Waimahana Marae, Ngāti Tahu Tribal Trust, Paeroa South Trust, Ngāti Tahu Ngāti Whaoa Runanga Trust, and Tauhara North No.2 Trust.
Our representatives are giving evidence on the 15th and 16th of September and we invite Ngati Tahu Ngati Whaoa whanau to support our representatives.
