A despacho ceremony is an ancient ritual practised by the Q’ero in Peru. It’s a prayer in the form of offerings placed with intention and love in a 3-dimensional mandala.Each element in the despacho has symbolism and is placed in a specific space representing the lower, middle or upper world. For example, cocoa leaves placed near the start of the despacho carry the intention and sacred purpose of the ceremony. The coca carry the energy of gratitude and all our petitions to Illa Tecse Wirachocha (one of many names for Source). The meanings will be shared during the despacho.
At a point in the ceremony you will be given a coca leaf which you will hold to your third eye. You imagine sending messages of what you need to release to the coca leaf followed by prayers of what you want to invite into your life. You then hand these to the priest carrying out the despacho who places them into the despacho on your behalf.
Once the despacho is completed you are cleansed of heavy energy with the despacho bundle and the priest’s mesa bundle. The despacho is then burnt to release all the prayers made during its creation.
The despacho will be for the Water element. The ceremony will be held next to the Baviaans mountain stream at Inner Peace Healing in Hout Bay.
Please be aware that there are steep stairs down to the river where the despacho ceremony will be held.
