ABOUT THE "MADAME BUTTERFLY" OPERA

‘Love cannot K*ll: it brings new life.’

On a starlit night in Nagasaki, these are the words spoken by American naval officer Pinkerton to young geisha Cio-Cio-San. But as they both learn, words and promises carelessly spoken can have indelible consequences.

With a score that includes Butterfly’s aria, 'Un bel dì, vedremo' (‘One fine day’) and the Humming Chorus, Giacomo Puccini’s opera is entrancing and ultimately heart-breaking. Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier’s exquisite production takes inspiration from 19th-century European images of Japan.

ABOUT "DISCOVERING LONDON WITH LATIN AMERICAN HOUSE"

Exploring London with Latin American House is an initiative that aims to connect the community of Latin American immigrants of London with local cultural venues, facilitating the appropriation, learning and enjoyment of these spaces. We know that London’s cultural offer can feel huge and overwhelming, so we facilitate guided visits specially designed for these groups, including help in Spanish or Portuguese if needed.

ABOUT LATIN AMERICAN HOUSE

Latin American House was born in 1983 as the Latin America Association. Since then, it has served as a community centre for both Latin Americans in London and for the local people of Kilburn. We are a registered charity and company limited by guarantee, and we house one of the oldest Spanish-speaking nurseries in London. We offer legal and social advice in relation to benefits, housing, and employment law, as well as opportunities to acquire life-long skills and a place to meet people, share ideas and enjoy the rich culture of Latin America.
