Waste Reimagined: Design and Circularity Part 1 (workshop)At the Knight Gallery, College for Creative Studies (CCS) Taubman Center
Led by Grand Rapids-based sustainable design company Design Declassified, this short workshop offers an exploration on the process of diverting waste to new material forms, and the role of design in the circular economy. The event includes tactile encounters with materials and hands-on demonstrations. The workshop will conclude with a sketch-off, in which participants can brainstorm their own sustainable design projects. Design Declassified will fabricate the top three designs and unveil them at Waste Reimagined: Design and Circularity Part 2 (9/24/2025 - 5-7pm, also at the Knight Gallery).

This event will include short talks highlighting the role of design and designers in municipal waste diversion, highlighting the responsible selection of materials and processes and industrial symbiosis. It will end with a panel discussion between designers and policy makers from the City of Detroit and Michigan.
