Our annual, much loved Wassail returns!Wassailing is a Twelfth Night tradition with pagan roots, practised in Britain for centuries to ensure a good harvest the following season. It takes place in the weeks after Christmas and involves visiting an orchard for singing, dancing, drinking and general merrymaking.
We’ll head to the orchard behind the garden to visit the fruit trees, sing songs and make a hullabaloo by banging pots and pans to scare dark spirits away. Expect apple juice, live music and singing, and tying toast on trees to make the good spirits happy.
Snacks, hot drinks and bakes available. Children and dogs welcome. Free to attend, although small donations are welcomed.
