About this Event
Join us at the Washington Studio School on January 6th from 2-6 PM for a day of preparing surfaces to paint on for the upcoming term. Students will learn how to stretch a canvas with the help of a faculty member and will learn how to gesso their canvas or paper. Take ownership of your substrate and experience the difference in preparing your own surfaces!
What you will need to bring with you:
- Medium-weight cotton duck canvas (six to eight inches larger than your frame; if your frame is going to be 18x24 inches, your canvas should be at least 24x30 inches for lightweight stretcher bars. Add an extra 2 inches for the thicker, heavy-weight stretcher bars).
- A gesso brush (4-inch brush from the hardware store)
- Stretcher bars (size of your choice or refer to your instructor’s supply list)
- Watercolor paper (18x24 inches) and tape, if you plan on using watercolor paper to paint on.
We will provide the pliers, staple guns, staples, and gesso*.
RSVP is required to attend!
*There is a $5 fee per canvas to cover the cost of gesso.
