Student Sustainability Action Challenge

Workshop: Wednesday, March 2nd | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Finalist Pitch-Fest: Friday, March 4th | 10:45 AM - 12:00 PM

This will be an event for students that will introduce you to the process of human-centered design and design thinking as a means to develop solutions to complex problems including: empathizing, defining, ideating, prototyping, and iterating. We want to challenge you to generate ideas and find creative solutions built for the humans who will actually use them. Outcomes of this process might come in the form of programs, actions, processes, or artifacts - physical or digital. This experience will provide students with a valuable skill set you can use in your future as well as a creative, productive way to tackle complex problems. Higher education institutions are invited and encouraged to recruit one or more student teams of 3-4 students to participate in this challenge!

The Workshop component on Wednesday will offer a combination of guest expert speakers, collaborative group ideating and project development and mentorship from local industry leaders. The Pitch-Fest component will consist of time for the top teams to pitch their Sustainability Action Idea, and judging and awards.

Teams are encouraged to:

-Think big - What impacts would you have if you had $100 million?

-Come with a preliminary idea that could be implemented and or sustained on your campus or in your community

-Consider social justice as a foundational component of any solution

$15 per person to participate.
