About this Event

Washington Terrain: the Wild, the Luminous, and the Architectural

Artists Talk Friday, August 19th, 2022 at Amy Kaslow Gallery

Washington Landscapes offers a sumptuous look at the nation’s capital. Paintbrushes, pen and ink and intricate appliqués of three artists capture the city’s majestic landscape from strikingly different perspectives. Join us in conversation with painter Bernard Dellario alongside pen and ink illustrator Brandon McDonald as we explore their work. Dellario’s masterful abstraction is matched by McDonald’s dedicated precision. Friday, August 19th at 6pm at Amy Kaslow Gallery.

Bernard Dellario brings the outside in with elegantly hued gouaches and oils. His inspiration is endless. From rock-studded creek beds to tree canopied forests, the rambling and rolling Rock Creek Park provides Dellario his biggest canvas. The painter’s urban scapes are just as immersive: Georgetown’s walking bridge across the C&O canal; a hot and steamy afternoon around Dupont Circle; the turreted rooflines of Logan Circle. All have a powerful local calling. President of the long-established Washington Society of Landscape Painters, Dellario paints and teaches throughout the Maryland Eastern Shore and the Washington, DC region. The artist has won local and national awards, and lives in Easton, Maryland. Preview Dellario’s works in the show.

Brandon McDonald transports us to Washington’s favorite hiking trails, the Billy Goat, the C&O Canal and the shoreline of the Potomac River. With the finest detail, his pen and ink impressions capture vistas along the edges of daylight. Hillsides rugged with rock, paths that snake along waterways, and forest openings with uncanny depth of field. McDonald spent his early years in Washington state. There he began his love of sketching Mother Nature and later earned an art degree at Pacific Lutheran University. This is McDonald’s second exhibition with Amy Kaslow Gallery. He lives in Cabin John, Maryland. Preview McDonald’s works in the show.
