About this Event
Founded in North Wales in 1865, the company specialises in Russian works of art; particularly those by Carl Fabergé. It also sells exquisite jewellery by Cartier, Boucheron and Falize. Wartski also made the Welsh gold wedding rings for the now Prince and Princess of Wales.
I am therefore delighted that the BADA Friends will be able to see at close hand and hear the amazing history behind many of the jewels that they hold. After this dazzling morning BADA Friends make their own arrangements for lunch and then at 2.15pm will re-group outside the Society of Antiquaries which is situated on the left in the Royal Academy courtyard.
Before the middle of the nineteenth-century the Society was often seen by Fellows as the most appropriate place to deposit antiquities and pictures. The collections contain 50,000 objects ranging from prehistoric, classical, and medieval antiquities, seal matrices and impressions, and paintings, as well as items relating to the history of the Society.
Highlights include items such as a Bronze Age shield from Ayrshire and a medieval processional cross from the site of the Battle of Bosworth, as well as an outstanding group of early panel paintings. After the tour tea/coffee will be served.
