Warren Fahey with Marcus Holden and Garry Steel
For sixty years Warren Fahey has been singing and collecting Australian stories, reminding us of our history with songs recitations and humour. He is a “national treasure”.Check out his intro re the show at

Fahey concerts celebrate the outback and city alleys – in a unique larrikin style. “A genuine as the smell of gum leaves on a bush campfire.” (Philip Adams, ABC Radio).
Supported by two master accompanists, Marcus Holden, on fiddle and mandolin and Garry Steel on accordion, he will present a masterful program of classic ballads, yarns, verses, and ditties that blend the quirky with the historic and the serious; from early colonial Australia that extending right through to the current time.
In his recent review of the concert, Dr Michael Fine said “…this was not a dry class in
cultural history, but a compelling, humorous, at times tragic and conflict-filled mirror held up to Australia in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries that continues to fascinate.
Strong of voice, always friendly, he complained of growing old as he approaches four score years. But here was a man of today, not yesterday, who continues to grow and shine in every aspect of his art and presentation. Marcus Holden, on fiddle and mandolin and Garry Steel on accordion were compelling in their art, too, never faltering, often virtuosic but never pretentious, they showed us just how great musicianship truly enhances some of the deceptively simple musical patterns that seem to be taken for granted in the soundtrack of our national history. Warren Fahey has an enviable reputation as a serious contributor to the history of folk music and to the preservation of an understanding of Australian popular culture. Today, he showed that he continues to have a strong appeal as a performer, collector and cultural historian. His spontaneous engagement with the audience, his wit, casual erudition, and compelling sense of storytelling drew in every single member of the audience of over one hundred people at today’s concert, showing that there continues to be a deep interest in Australian folk music and popular culture”
