As days get much shorter, we can’t deny Winter is on its way. But even the winter months can hold joys for us: the pleasures of frosty mornings and warm satisfying food eaten in good company. This course is about reading and writing poems that celebrate the good things of winter safe in the knowledge that, despite the weather, another Spring is on its way.
This four-session course is at Intermediate level, for those who have written poetry before, and are used to sharing their work for group feedback.
Course Summary:
- Close reading of others’ poems and taking inspiration for your own work
- Experimenting with existing poems’ structures to build your own
- Trying out new and familiar poetic forms
- Sharpening your use of images
- Linking the shape and form of your poem to what you want to say
By the end of the course, you will:
- Demonstrate poetry skills by writing two seasonal haiku.
- Demonstrate poetry skills by drafting a poem that demonstrates anaphora.
- Give and receive constructive feedback on each other’s work in class which is used to develop work.
- Describe features of four poetic techniques in class quiz.
- Complete the reflective journal and identify next steps in poetry, creative writing or other learning
