But among the various styles the city is known for that have launched many musical acts to success and stardom, country music wasn’t a truly thriving genre there, that’s until singer, songwriter and guitarist Ward Hayden and his band The Outliers (formerly known as Girls Guns & Glory) sang and played their distinctive take on C&W with a rock’n’roll kick to the top of the Boston scene and a thriving, critically-acclaimed and highly-awarded career across America and in Europe.Beginning in 2010 Ward and his collection of bandmates & musician friends began gathering together on Jan 1st to kick off every new year and honor the life and legacy of one of their biggest musical influences: Hank Williams.Hank Williams lived for just 29 short years, but what a lasting and meaningful legacy he left behind. Hank left this world on Jan 1, 1953 and for the last fifteen years Ward has assembled an incredible collection of songs from Hank's catalog, with new surprises, country classics, & deep cuts added every single year.In addition to performing a full set of Hank's music, each year the band performs a set of Ward Hayden & The Outliers original songs. For fans of Hank, fans of Country Music, & fans of Ward & The Outliers, it doesn't get much better than this.
