Testimonials

Songs in Noongar language transposed into English, and vice-versa (Moon River) show that Williams is a transcendent artist in any language, and her friend and collaborator Guy Ghouse’s generous, serene presence and fingerstyle acoustic guitar playing (often reminiscent of James Taylor, with the thumb taking the place of a pianists left hand) is a show in itself.”

David Zampatti, From the Turnstiles (Koorlangka: Reimagined)

“Williams speaks and sings from the heart of her broken childhood and gradual reconcilia?tion with what matters — Koort, Moort, Boo?dja, Koorlangka: heart, family, land, children and legacy…many still struggle to unite those four elements but Williams and collabora?tor/accompanist Guy Ghouse brought it all home…and then some."

David Cusworth The West Australian (Koort)

Williams and “Gina Williams & Guy Ghouse are stunning artists whose music is a celebration of life, community and a shared humanity.”

Caroline Moore, Former Artistic Director, Port Fairy Folk Festival

About Gina

Gina is a Balladong daughter; one of the 14 clan groups which make up the Noongar nation, covering the south west corner of Western Australia. By official records, Noongar language is critically endangered (there are less than 400 recognised fluent speakers left). Her mother and grandmother, both part of the Stolen Generations were never allowed to speak their languages. Gina wasn’t stolen, but was relinquished as a baby for adoption. Telling her story and singing these beautifully crafted songs in language is deeply personal.
