About this Event
Wandering Scholars: Lights Through The Ages
Long before fairy lights and holiday glow filled our streets, people across the world gathered around fire and flame to push back the winter darkness - lighting torches, candles, and bonfires to call the sun back, and celebrate its promise of return.
In this talk, we’ll journey through centuries of winter traditions and festivals of light, from ancient rituals and mythic tales to Hanukkah and beyond - uncovering how they all spring from the same timeless human longing for warmth, renewal, and hope.
Through stories and folklore, we’ll explore how these traditions continue to shape the way we mark the season today, and how the simple act of kindling light still connects us across history and belief.
We will send out the address the morning of the event. Snacks provided, but please bring food to share!
