Join us for a naturalist-guided hike at Walton Ranch Preserve as we look for local wildlife and learn about native habitats! We will explore the preserve at a leisurely pace, stopping to observe and identify plants and animals as we walk. The 3,760 acre Walton Ranch Preserve, opened in 2015, has over 19 miles of trails through marshes, pine flatwoods, hardwood hammocks, and ranchland. The preserve is an important connection between other conserved lands along the Myakka River that form a significant block of natural lands, providing potential habitat for large-range species such as the Florida Panther and Black Bear.
This program is suitable for all ages. Participants under 16 must attend with a parent or guardian.
Participants should bring a water bottle and wear clothing appropriate for the weather. We recommend sun protection, bug spray, and closed-toe shoes, no flip-flops. The trails are a mix of grass and sugar sand with intermittent shade. Please note there are no restrooms or water fountains on-site. We recommend using the restroom before you arrive.
This program is provided in partnership with the Sarasota County Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Department.
Your gift of $5 or more per person will help us save wild places and continue to engage people in nature. We greatly appreciate your support!
