Walter has barely reopened, and 𝗞𝗲𝗻 𝗩𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸 is already at the door. Rings a bell?
Of course it does: The Vandermark 5, Made To Break, Marker, and winner of the MacArthur Prize — also known as “the genius grant.” And that genius is knee-deep in Chicago’s contemporary jazz scene. Vandermark is bringing along three young voices from that thrilling context: Erez Dessel, Lily Finnegan, and Beth McDonald. Walter is already blushing.
The genius will linger for a few days in Cureghem and briefly take the Antwerp jazz scene on tour. A handful of students from AP Hogeschool don’t yet know what’s coming their way in early October. But it will stick. Just like Walter’s (re)opening night. The AP combo will play the first notes in the concert hall after a long time and warm up the stage for Ken Vandermark’s Edition Redux. Will you stick around as well?
