This September, Walsall MakerFest returns for a second year, bringing a celebration of creativity and innovation through collaboration to the heart of Walsall. Taking place on Saturday 13 September in venues across the town centre, the festival promises a full day of family-friendly entertainment, hands-on workshops, and creative inspiration for all ages.Expect:
A Town Hall takeover with a full day of hands-on making experiences. From Robot Wars to creating your own wearable screen-printed art and designing and making your own jewellery.
Music in Gallery Square from high-energy Bhangra Smash Up, bringing a fusion of traditional, Indian dhol drumming and Western sounds guaranteed to make you get up and dance!
A day of diverse dance, led by Black Country Dance, outside The Crossing at St Paul’s will see performances from professionals, community groups, private dance schools, colleges and local schools demonstrating the area’s rich dance scene.
Get creative at the Magical Mythical Garden, an immersive installation featuring giant flowers and faeries by Walsall Creative Factory. Workshops throughout the day will include making exotic paper birds, interactive giant drawing and mehndi art.
Hear stories and write your own at the Story Village with RicNic Productions. Come on a journey with Peter Chand, one of Europe’s finest storytellers. Encounter amazing talking animals, foolish folk, magical incidents, and a wise word or two.
Visit the Digital Skill Hub to explore Minecraft as a creative platform, take part in an immersive VR showcase and learn practical design skills with Canva.
The day will also see the return of a Makers’ Market along Park Street, featuring fifty makers, artists and crafters, as well as an affordable food court from Walsall and the surrounding area.
The full festival programme will be announced in August.
